Sparrow of the Sagebrush

Brewer's Sparrow in sagebrush
I spent some time last week in the sagebrush of southwest South Dakota. One of the birds I was looking for was Brewer's Sparrow. Brewer's Sparrows are very difficult to see in the thick sagebrush they call home. I worked really hard to find one of these secretive and shy birds. This photo shows the closest encounter I had with this little sparrow, the 386th bird on my life list.
